Eva has spent the majority of her adult life in Hong Kong, a city that visually and culturally inspires her to constantly create art.
Her favorite films include “Lighting up The Stars” (China, 2022), “Farewell My Concubine”, “Everything Everywhere All At Once”, and “My Neighbor Totoro”.
She first moved to Hong Kong in 2012 to work in financial journalism, after a year spent first in Mainland China. Her education includes an M.A. in International Journalism from the University of Leeds, England, a B.A. in History from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada, as well as a Film & TV Production Certificate from UCLA’s Summer Film Institute, and the HSK 5 Certificate in Mandarin Chinese. She has also taken additional coursework at Beijing Film Academy, where many of her strongest bonds were created.
After beginning her career as a writer, Eva began to transition into film, eventually opening a production company in Hong Kong to facilitate shoots within the city, as well as in Mainland China. Dispersed within this work, Eva also has held a number of roles on film and TV projects in the U.S. and Canada, in both narrative and documentary.
The first feature film Eva directed, “Paint It Red”, premiered at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival in 2017, and since that time, she has directed and produced a number of short documentary projects, and is in the middle of production for a feature film about horse welfare, where filming has spanned the U.S., Canada and Japan.
Looking forward, Eva is excited about the potential that new technologies bring to storytelling, and eagerly continues to chase the stories that matter.
